There was an Old Lady

I haven't played my guitar in quite some time. I'm not really sure why and have no particular reason but I have decided to rekindle the limited skills I have on said instrument and channel them towards a new goal: learning songs to one day play and sing to my future child (the one that an old man I recently spoke to in the library kept referring to as "under construction"). #1 on the list: There was an old lady who swallowed a fly. What a great song. Really, it's just clever and lovely and makes me laugh every time. I remember singing it to my nephew Ty for the first time when he was about 5 (after a few renditions of "Jingle Bell Rock", his all time favorite bedtime song--even in July). He just starred at me the whole time with a completely blank look on his face, jaw slightly dropped, confusion settling in deeper and deeper as the old lady swallowed progressively larger animals. He retained this expression until suddenly, the old lady swallowed a horse (and died of course). Ty's eyebrows shoot sky high, his mouth formed a surprised "O" and after a complete minute of shock--he burst into giggles. What better reaction could you ask from a bedtime musical performance?
