This is what we do on Saturday night when husband is at the library all night and I am home with baby: make a DIY make-up magnet board. Is it super lame and cliche that I'm blogging about a DIY project? I feel like it is. I'm going to do it anyway because my makeup board is cool. So I actually made the magnet board at girls camp once so I've had it for a long time. All I really had to do was attach it to my bathroom wall next to the mirror with command strips and then hot glue little magnets to all my makeup. (Yes, I know I hardly use any makeup and yes, I did put my deodorant on there too. Many a morning has been made stressful because Dana cannot find her deodorant (or a lot of other things for that matter, as a roommate once put it "Dana--it's like you live in a constant Bermuda triangle) and yes, i just used parentheses within parentheses. what now. done with parentheses.) also my board has little holes to hold earrings, a hook for my ever elusive and constantly disappearing hair elastics, and additional magnets to hang necklaces or whatever else strikes my fancy. And a picture of my handsome husband.
Ooo I like this. Look at you, little DIY mommy!!
ReplyDeleteDana, this is so cute, and if blogging about DIY projects is wrong as a nesting mother, then I have sinned. Haha. But I was thinking about getting ready to have this baby and how you said your darling daughter came early, and well, I think that if you have time, and energy, you should write a post about what you needed at the hospital and what you didn't. I've seen lists all over the internet, but I really liked the way you wrote about your delivery and would love some hospital bag advice. Even if you just facebooked it to me, if you get a second, could you do that and help a nervous soon-to-be mom out? :)
ReplyDeleteHey Jody!
Deletehere are my words of advice for the hospital bag:
the #1 thing I wish I brought and didn't was a pair of slippers. I came in boots and wasn't exactly about to walk around in my hospital gown and boots so. . .ya, didn't have anything to wear on my feet. gross.
big baggy v-neck t shirt that's easy to nurse in if you're doing that. and a nursing bra. (I didn't wear anything but my hospital gown until I was discharged, but some people like to get dressed)
clothes to go home in (sweats)
outfit to bring little baby bitton home in (my friend had an adorable little newborn outfit picked out to take her baby home in but then had 9.5 lb baby--she couldn't even get her into the outfit. So I took that advice and brought a bigger outfit (0-3 months) and had a tiny 6 lb 14 oz. baby. I could have fit 2 of her inside the outfit we brought her home in! So, advice: bring 2!)
lots of snacks. for your husband and for you. If your labor is long he wont want to leave you but he'll need something to eat. And when my labor was over it was the middle of the night and the hospital cafeteria wasn't open.
TUMS. Do you get heartburn? This sounds stupid but after my epidural, my only discomfort was that I had terrible heartburn and I had to ask honestly about 18 times before the nurse finally brought me something for it (and when she did she brought me not tums but the most foul liquid I've ever tasted which didn't even work so then I had to keep asking until I got the tums I wanted) And they charge you an arm and a leg for any medication they give you in the hospital. I wish i'd had some in my bag that Tanner could have slipped me.
your ipod. again, in case of long labor. . .
make sure the car seat is in the car with a couple of blankets to bundle him up in
make-up and toiletries if you want to look/smell good for your visitors!
camera/video camera/phone all with charged batteries. And your phone charger
that's all I can think of but I'll let you know if I think of more! And honestly, I don't know how close you live to your hospital but we were 5 minutes away and if I'd needed something it would have been way easy to send Tanner home for it or even ask one of your family members to go get you something. Don't stress too bad
good luck i'm so excited for you!
Yes! Help a sista out! I would also love to see a post about what you needed and didn't need at the hospital. I too am expecting.....one day. :) P.S.. don't rag (wrag? rag? I've never actually spelled this word...) on writing posts about DIY projects. It's the cool thing to do. http://mulfherd.blogspot.com/2011/11/not-so-diy-project.html :)
ReplyDeleteP.P.S. Hope you had a fantastic birthday celebration!
